BST Lightweight Concrete
BST Lightweight Concrete is made using BST Lightweight Concrete Aggregate to replace some or all of the heavier aggregates used in standard concrete. The greater the replacement, the lighter is the concrete.
BST Concrete can be made in a normal builder’s mixer or supplied premixed in agitators as for standard concrete.
What is BST Lightweight Concrete Aggregate?
BST Lightweight Concrete Aggregate is made from small polystyrene balls and granulate, treated in a special production method, and coated with a proprietary, non toxic coating. The coating is activated when in contact with the wet, cementitious materials, enabling the BST Aggregate to disperse evenly throughout the concrete. This is essential to ensure that the strength and other concrete properties are uniform throughout the concrete.
BST Aggregate is an Australian product.
BST Aggregate was developed in 1990 by BST Holdings in conjunction with the University of Technology, Sydney. The intellectual property rights are now held by Abrams Marketing. BST Aggregate is manufactured in western Sydney and distributed across Australia. Abrams Marketing is the distributor of BST Aggregate and is an Australian company. Abrams Marketing provides full technical support and construction advice for BST Concrete.
Advantages of BST Concrete.
BST Concrete is widely used for floor and roof toppings, as well as in many civil and product applications. The advantages of BST Concrete include –
• light weight and strong – provides cost effective design solutions where weight is a consideration
• excellent fire resistance
• thermal and acoustic insulation
• low water permeability
• flexibility
• easy to pump and place
• for premixed BST Concrete, 25-30% granulated, recycled polystyrene particles are used
